The inhabitants of the settlement threw together the winter lunch for the sick stork, who could not fly away with his companions.

The white stork named Guri did not fly away with his companions to a warmer climate, but tried to survive the winter at home, waiting for spring in Jászapáti

reported on the strange case .

He did not stay here in a good mood, unfortunately his strength and health were not suitable for the retreat. The friendly migratory bird was discovered at the beginning of January near the city limits, and quickly became a favorite of the locals. Many people follow their fate on the Wintering Storks - Stork Breeding Facebook page.

On January 7, one of my acquaintances called to say that her daughter-in-law had seen a white stork at the city limits, she was worried about what would happen to it in the winter. I already knew about the bird's presence then, as a young man from Jászky had reported it a few days earlier. After that, Gergő Mihályi shared a video of the stork wandering in the border on the social network

– amateur photographer Éva Gulyás, one of the volunteer helpers of the migratory bird, began Guri's story.

Guri quickly became a favorite of the locals

She contacted her acquaintance, Ágotá Urbánné Juhász, who lives in the area where the video was shot, and contacted the Wintering Storks - Stork Breeding group, which was established in 2017 by András Márton Vlad. Under the expert guidance of the work group, the two enthusiastic bird lovers began to feed Guri so that he could survive the winter months when food is scarce. Many of the locals also care about the fate of the bird that wandered into the settlement, so they take care of feeding it together.

We regularly bring food to Guri. Consistency is very important to him. He even notices when it is not his main feeder, Ágota, but me who goes to feed him. At first, when it was minus six degrees, he came to eat twice a day. As the weather softens, we see less and less, he only stays in his usual place in the afternoon

Éva Gulyás told the news portal, who buys Guri's daily allowance from the money offered by the residents.

Her favorite is sliced chicken neck, but she has also been given chicken hearts as a treat, and a fisherman even surprised her with small fish. The volunteer helper is constantly documenting Guri's everyday life, as not a day goes by without an inquiry about the bird's well-being. Bird lovers are confident that thanks to local cooperation, Guri's stork will survive the rest of the winter in good health.

On the Wintering Storks - Stork Breeding Facebook page, beautiful photos and videos show the life of the protected bird appearing on the border of Jászapát.

They last shared a video on February 18, in which Guri discovered the scooter while enjoying his reflection. It was written that he did not eat much at the time, it is likely that he was already preparing to hunt and hunt on his own.
