Zsuzsa Mihalek, the designer of the film Szegény párák, also won the award of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) at the awards ceremony held in London on Sunday.
Jórgosz Lánthimosz's film Poor couples received the BAFTA award in five categories. Emma Stone, who played the lead role in the new adaptation of Frankenstein based on the novel by Scottish author Alasdair Gray, received the award for best actress at the Royal Festival Hall. The film of the Greek-born director living in London also won in the categories of costume design, makeup and hair, visual effects and visual design.
In the latter category, Zsuzsa Mihalek won the award as a decorator together with two British production designers, Shona Heath and James Price.
The trophy for the best visual design was received at the gala by Shona Heath and James Price, who also thanked Zsuzsa Mihalek.
Set designer Zsuzsa Mihalek has been working in the film industry since the late eighties. About three hundred Hungarian film professionals participated in the production of Poor Couples, whose Hungarian production company was Pioneer Production Kft.
By the way, Christopher Nolan's film Oppenheimer won most of the main prizes of the British Film Academy at the awards ceremony in London.
The biographical drama about the theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer, the leader of the team of scientists who developed the first atomic bomb, took home seven trophies, including best picture and best director, at the BAFTAs, considered a relatively reliable Oscar predictor, hosted by David Tennant.
The Poor Couples was also nominated for 11 Oscars, among others for best visual design, so Zsuzsa Mihalek is also a candidate for the American Film Academy Award.
The Oscars gala will be held in Los Angeles on March 10, Sunday evening (Monday morning Hungarian time).
