A Catholic prayer app called Hallow has become the first religious-themed app to top the download charts.
With this, they have overtaken companies such as Temu or Threads, which employ many more employees. In spreading the word of Christian application a
Chosen star Jonathan Roumie and Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg also starred.
A Catholic prayer app called Hallow became the most popular app on the App Store on Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the 40-day Lent, commemorating the 40 days Jesus Christ spent in the wilderness before beginning his public ministry, Axioma wrote based on the Daily Wire article.
In a post on X, the prayer app shared, “Hollow App is #1 on the App Store! Glory be to Jesus - He really is #1!”
It is the first religious themed app to top the list.
"We are incredibly happy with how many people downloaded the app on the first day of Lent"
the post said. "More than a million people joined the challenge and began a journey of heart and character transformation through prayer."
An image shared by Hallow shows the prayer app ahead of a shopping app called Temu, followed by social media app Threads. In a second post, the company noted that while they only have 85 employees, plus Jesus, their win put them ahead of companies like Temu, with 10,000 employees, and Threads, with 67,000.
"We're blown away," Hallow CEO and co-founder Alex Jones said in a press release. "When we started Hallow, we couldn't even imagine that a thousand people would pray together on it, let alone a million".
"God does incredible things"
Jones added. "All glory, recognition and thanks belong to Him. I never thought we would be at the top of the App Store. The other apps in the top 100 are long-standing apps with tens of thousands of employees, such as Netflix, Spotify, Amazon, Google or Instagram.”
Catholic celebrities such as Chosen star Jonathan Roumie or Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg helped the application grow in popularity.
who encouraged people to join them on the app in a commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. The company says the app has never been downloaded as many times as it did after the ad, which called on people to take a moment to give thanks to God and join the prayer challenge during Lent.
Wahlberg and Roumie have spoken several times about their collaboration with Hallow. "I think it's great that Ash Wednesday falls on Valentine's Day this year," Wahlberg said. "Because where could you get greater love than from the Lord? In these times, we need things that bring people together, and the power of prayer does that," he emphasized.
"We start the day with gratitude, because we know that we have been given so much in this life for which we can be grateful to God"
Roumie added.
