We are celebrating the Hungarian-Polish Friendship Day on March 23 for the 17th year
On the occasion of this significant day, on March 26 from 6 p.m., the Wacław Felczak Foundation and the Polish Institute in Budapest will present a documentary film about the life of Wacław Felczak entitled On the Courier's Trail - Direction: Hungary.
The protagonist of the film is Wacław Felczak, who during the Second World War was the Budapest organizer of the secret courier service between the Polish resistance and the Polish government in exile, delivering money and information from the west to the underground resistance movement in occupied Poland. He was arrested and imprisoned on false charges in 1948, released in the fall of 1956, and then worked as a historian at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. As a historian, he mainly dealt with Hungary, Central Europe and the Balkans. From the 1970s, he regularly visited Hungary and came into contact with the regime-changing intellectuals.
The film was directed by Grzegorz Kubaszko and was made with the support of the Foundation in the summer of 2023. The presentation took place at the Wacław Felczak Memorial Conference on October 18, 2023.
As part of the event, the exhibition on the historian Wacław Felczak, prepared by the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) in Krakow, can be viewed in the exhibition space of the Polish Institute.
Participation in the event is free, but registration is required.
