Schoolchildren from Felvidék tell about why it is good and important to attend a Hungarian school.
Why is mother tongue education important? Because the most natural and effective way of learning is learning in the mother tongue.
What language school do you enroll your child in? - we don't know since when this became a question among Hungarian parents in the highlands and especially not why. The answer should be obvious, every argument is in favor of mother tongue schooling.
Earlier, we visited a psychologist, a specialist at the meliorat.io development center, Loreta Hakszer, who expressed extremely sensitively why it is important to stay in touch with our mother tongue:
Choosing the right school is decisive in a child's life, and Hungarian parents across the border also decide whether they want their children to be educated in their mother tongue. I think it is important to mention that learning the mother tongue does not end when the child learns to speak. Learning the mother tongue has critical periods that can be linked to biological maturation processes.
One of these critical periods is the age of 6-7, when the child enters school, and later puberty. These periods are also very important from a psychological point of view, since a stable and effective self-system such as self-consciousness, self-image, self-ideal, and self-evaluation is formed during school age.
It is important that the child starts the learning process with joy and confidence and that the lack of mother tongue does not prevent him from expressing his feelings with fear. If the child's mother tongue plays a subordinate role in school, a stable self-system cannot develop.
