The Romanian Gymnastics Federation first tried to cover up the case, but later initiated disciplinary proceedings, but the Romanian parties have remained silent ever since.
As we reported, a 15-year-old boy from Lugos was allegedly tortured by two of his friends at the training camp of the junior gymnastics team in Resicabánya. The young athletes preparing for the European Championship drank alcohol and smoked in the camp. According to the news, two other minor athletes attacked the Hungarian boy.
According to the newspaper, she was tied to a heater, her hair was cut, she was stripped, she was forced to drink alcohol, ashes were put on her head and sexual games were played with her.
Meanwhile, the boy was shouted at as "Ungure", but no one stopped the humiliation.
After that, Elek Nagy, a businessman from Cluj-Napoca living in Budapest, offered full sponsorship and further education support to the abused gymnast from Lugos, if the boy thinks that he would continue his sports career in Hungary because of what happened.
"When I was young, I was also subjected to atrocities in Transylvania because of my Hungarianness"
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation first tried to cover up the matter, and even thought of excluding the abused boy from the team, but later they initiated disciplinary proceedings.
According to the decision, the young people who tortured the 15-year-old gymnast cannot participate in the April 24-28. at the European Championship to be held in Italy between
In the meantime, the abusers were named, Mihai Iustin, Andrei Titi and Flavius Borca left the training camp in Resicabánya and returned to their club teams until the investigation was completed.
RMDSZ president Kelemen Hunor reacted to the case of the 15-year-old athlete who was abused and humiliated because of his Hungarian status with a Facebook post urging action by Romanian state leaders and the punishment of those responsible.
The president of the federation assessed that the anti-Hungarian campaign of the Association for the Unification of Romanians (AUR) led to this, as well as the fact that the Romanian society had been silently tolerating hatred for years. Kelemen Hunor asked his fellow Romanian politicians and the leaders of the state to condemn the case, because
"this cannot be left without a word or without consequences, anti-Hungarianism must be suppressed".
The leaders of the Romanian parties have so far not published a position on the matter.
