Local communities applying for the 31st Flowering Hungary competition can submit their applications with an extended deadline, until May 20, the Hungarian Tourism Agency announced.
For the country's oldest environmental beautification competition, the agency is waiting for entries in five categories this year, and Hungarian-inhabited settlements across the border can enter their green public spaces for the fifth time.
Based on the success of the new award categories introduced in recent years, sustainability and communities are the main focus this year.
For the second time, a winner is announced in the category of green innovation of the year, with which they want to draw attention to the sustainability efforts of the settlements. Applicants are once again invited for the renewed Flourishing Community award in the jubilee year. Continuing the traditions of the past years, in 2024 recognition cannot be expected solely with a complete picture of the settlement: there will also be thematic awards, for example the year's row of trees and kindergarten garden, as well as the most flowery main square.
Almost 80 valuable, professional prizes will be awarded at the autumn award ceremony, from gardening vouchers to professional advice and assistance to tangible gifts. This year, the competition is supported by several professional organizations and ministries, including the Ministry of Construction and Transport, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Public Administration and Territorial Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Interior. The Prime Minister's Cabinet Office also supported the issue of environmental beautification.
According to the announcement, in 2024 Hungary will take on the role of president of the European environmental beautification competition, Entente Florale Europe. This year, two Hungarian settlements - Zalakaros and Debrecen - took part in the European competition, where they will compare their achievements in the field of greening with a total of a dozen competitors.
