On Friday, the board gathered in the large council chamber of the City Hall, where the withdrawal of the title of honorary citizen of Reformed bishop Zoltán Balog was discussed behind closed doors.

The representative body awarded him the award back in 2014. He did not accept the award then as a politician, but as a bishop he accepted it last year - reports 24.hu referring to the Ózd website.

Due to his involvement in the scandal that broke out in connection with the pardon case, the honorary citizen title previously awarded to Zoltán Balog was revoked today by the municipality of Ózd in full agreement

said Mayor Dávid Janiczak.

In mid-February, Bishop Zoltán Balog resigned from his position as pastor of the Synod of the Hungarian Reformed Church, when the press reported that he had supported as an adviser the then President of the Republic, Katalin Novák, to pardon the deputy director of the children's home in Bicske, who was sentenced to prison as an assistant to the director convicted of pedophilia.
