Mayor András Pikó admitted after a long time: the homeless situation in Józsefváros is unsustainable. At the same time, the mass resettlement of the homeless was advocated by the mayor himself in the last two years, writes Bors.

The Józsefváros municipality held a residents' forum for the residents of the Népszínház district, the main topic of which was the homeless people flooding the streets. The majority of people complained about public safety and the homeless.

According to mayor András Pikó, homeless people come from all over the country to the capital and Józsefváros, where most of the service providers operate. It is true that most of the organizations supporting organized resettlement are supported by the mayor himself, thus he himself lures the homeless into the district.

Piko said in the current forum,

he does not see the solution, but he already knows that untenable conditions prevail.

The sudden admission is particularly interesting because on May 11, at the forum organized for the residents of the Magdolna-Orczy quarter, the mayor boasted that "there are fewer and fewer homeless people in the public spaces", reminds Bors .

On May 10, the distraught residents of Józsefváros started a petition because

they have had enough of the aggressive homeless people in the district, as well as the leadership of the district and the capital,

who not only do nothing to deal with the problem, but also support the massive influx of homeless people into Józsefváros. The text of the petition - in which

they demand a complete overhaul of homeless care in Budapest

– sent to a total of 107 politicians and journalists, as well as 77 social workers. Among the recipients was András Pikó, VIII. district mayor and left-wing mayor Gergely Karácsony. The initiator of the petition received only 4 responses in 34 days, including András Pikó, who wrote two lines back saying that he was not interested in the petition. Gergely Karácsony did not answer at all.
