The historical non-fiction book of the year was awarded to Gábor Mező's book The occupation of culture.
The winners of the Libri literary award were announced in far more than before, in a total of 12 categories. The book trade recognition, returning in a renewed form this year, awards the most read works of 2023.
Among the historical non-fiction books of the year, Gábor Mező's The Occupy of Culture was the most loved by readers.
The publication is the first product of a longer research, which partly aims to present the communist occupation of mass culture, and partly the continued life of the executors of this regime in the field of mass culture. The timeliness of the volume is given by the fact that
political and economic regime change in Hungary was not accompanied by regime change in the cultural area.
The author of the volume presents faces in his usual readable style, rich in detail, and tells stories, often shocking, other times astonishing.
We see that the creators of the image of the human-faced cooperism or the most cheerful barracks were in many cases somehow connected to violent organizations.
