The Friedrich Schiller Society Composer Competition was announced for the first time. The first place winner will be richer by one thousand euros, and the score will be published by the Swiss contemporary music publisher, Pizzicato Verlag.
The second prize for a song written for a freely chosen poem was not awarded, and the Italian special prize went to Cesare Pozzo.
The main patron of the competition did not have the right to vote, but the world-famous composer and clarinetist Jörg Widmann gave rank to the competition. The jury members were composers Fabio Nieder and Salvatore Sciarrino, and Elia Macrì from the Friedrich Schiller Cultural Society, which launched the competition.
A piece by Máté Balogh was previously shortlisted in the Music Madness project in Durham City, North Carolina (USA), and in 2023 it won a special prize at the "Free Range" international composer competition in London.
