The player has a broken cheekbone, but is out of danger.
The Hungarian national football team has overcome a dramatic match in many ways, which defeated Scotland 1-0 in the last group match at the European Championship on Sunday night with a goal scored in the tenth minute of extra time.
Barnabás Varga's injury caused great alarm in the Stuttgart stadium, he was covered with a tarp during treatment.
At the moment of the blow, all that was known was that he was conscious and was taken to the hospital.
At the press conference after the match, Roland Sallai and Marco Rossi revealed new information about Barnabás Varga's condition.
- It was terrible to see Barni like this, but luckily he is much better, he will probably have a minor operation, but his condition is stable, we are pushing for him to be with us again as soon as possible
- said Roland Sallai, who was chosen as the best player in the 1-0 win against the Scots, about the condition of Barnabás Varga, who suffered a terrifying injury. – We fought for him in the remaining time, we wanted to win, somewhere this success is also for him.
Marco Rossi also spoke about the condition of the Fradi striker:
"I don't know if he collided with the goalkeeper or anyone, it was a confusing situation. That's why the VAR was there to investigate the penalty. It seemed that Barnabás was not conscious, everyone was worried about him, about his condition. The doctors started quite slowly on the field, perhaps they were not aware of the gravity of the situation.
But we can say that he is no longer in danger. He's going to be operated on because his cheekbone is broken, but he's fine and that's the most important thing."
Rossi also revealed that if the Hungarian national team advances to the round of 16 depending on the results of the other groups, Varga will no longer be part of the team.
