According to fifty percent of the citizens, the main problems would be better handled by the Republican candidate.
Former US President Donald Trump, the likely Republican presidential candidate, leads with the biggest advantage so far, four percentage points, over current President Joe Biden, according to a recent survey.
According to the latest poll by the New York Times and Siena College, 48 percent of likely voters support Trump and only 44 percent support Biden in the US presidential election. The difference in April was only one percentage point.
Among registered voters, the difference is even greater: Trump's support in this circle is also 48 percent, while Biden's is only 42 percent.
Trump leads even if the other candidates are taken into account, in which case 40 percent would choose him, 37 percent would choose Biden, and 7 percent would choose Robert Kennedy Jr., the American newspaper The New York Post points out.
The two most important issues of this year's election are the economy, which 23 percent felt was the most important, and immigration, which 17 percent put first. Fifty percent of the respondents said that these main problems would be better handled by Trump.
59 percent of respondents expect Trump to do well in the first presidential debate, which will take place on Thursday evening, local time, while only 48 percent think the same about his Democratic opponent.
According to the survey, voters think Joe Biden's age is a problem. Seventy percent said the current president is too old to be effective.
In recent years, Biden has regularly horrified Americans by mixing up state leaders, "remembering" things that didn't happen, or falling asleep at public events.
Although the White House vehemently denies the accusations related to the incompetence of the head of state, even the left-wing media admits that there is an existing problem.
The Wall Street Journal recalled an incident in January of this year, when Biden met with congressional leaders to discuss aid to Ukraine, and at times he muttered barely audible. He read from notes, took long pauses, and sometimes closed his eyes so long that some thought he fell asleep during the discussions.
Most recently, there was a huge outcry when Biden apparently dozed off during his defense secretary's speech in the crossfire of the cameras at the Memorial Day ceremony.
Moreover, this is not the first time that this has happened to him, last year, for example, he could not stay awake during the press conference of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
