Football in Csikszereda celebrates its 120th anniversary this year. In connection with this, on Sunday, June 30, the anniversary of the first match, a sports history discussion took place on the terrace of the Petőfi Kávéház in Csíkszereda.
At the Sunday afternoon event organized by FK Csíkszereda, Endre Farkas, head of the press department of FK, talked with local historian Katalin Daczó and Kálmán Ráduly Róbert, football researcher in Csík.
According to the research of Róbert Kálmán Ráduly, the first football match was played in Csíkszereda, on the field opposite the train station, 120 years ago, on June 30, 1904. The clash between the darks and the whites ended in a 1-1 draw.
"The first football match in Csík is very well documented, much better than the ice hockey match also played in Csíksereda, which took place in January 1931. No one can take that away from us, that in 1904 there was a football match in Csíksereda. In the other cities of Székelyföld - with the exception of Marosvásárhely - the ball started bouncing much later, and it's a miracle"
Ráduly said.
We learned from Katalin Daczó that 120 years ago, most of the initial football team was made up of lawyers, law students, and local high school students, Ákos Gara played an important role in the weeks of its formation, and engineer László Kőszeghy was the catalyst for the whole thing.
Katalin Daczó also prepared a compilation for the meeting, researching how the later lives of those who played in the first football match in Csík turned out, especially after the Trianon peace decree. Regarding the 120-year football history of Csíki, Kálmán Ráduly Róbert stated that he has few sources available for certain periods, the least of which is the years between 1944 and 1968. We found out that during the 120-year history of football in Csíki, it mostly moved between the third division and the county championship (4th League). First, in the small Hungarian world, in the period between 1940-1944, he played one season in the Hungarian NB II, and then from 2019 he is a member of the field of the Romanian second division championship.
Zoltán Szondy, the president of FK Csíkszereda, and Szilárd Cseke, the club's sports director, honored the sports history trip held on the terrace of the Petőfi Kávéház in Csíkszereda.
