The first coastal beach opened near the Montenegrin city of Ulcinj, where women are only allowed to wear the hijab - the traditional Muslim headscarf - or the body-covering burkini swimsuit. Men are not allowed to enter.
The population of coastal Ulcinj is predominantly Muslim, and since the end of the Yugoslav Wars, the city has become increasingly popular with tourists from Muslim countries, especially neighboring Albania.
For this reason, a section of the city's 12-kilometer-long sandy beach (Velika Plaža) was fenced off with reeds and equipped with sunbeds and changing rooms.
- reported the online edition of the Kronen Zeitung .
In this area, Muslim women can freely bathe and sunbathe. Men, including Muslims, are not allowed to enter the "Hijab Beach".
