With the accession of the Danish People's Party, there are seven different member countries in the Patriots for Europe party family, and the mandatory 23 representatives have already come together through the founding three, so there is no longer any obstacle for Viktor Orbán to found a faction on Monday and start the growth of Patriots for Europe.
The Danish People's Party (abbreviated: DK) will also join the Patriots for Europe party group in the European Parliament, Anders Vistisen, a member of the party's executive committee and the party's only member of the European Parliament, announced on X on Saturday. Until now, DK was a member of the Identity and Democracy (ID) group in the EP, MTI reported.
We look forward to working with our old allies from the ID, as well as our new friends from Spain, the Czech Republic and Hungary. We are sure that Patriots for Europe will be the third largest party group in the EP and we can send a clear signal to the federalists
Vistisen wrote on the social portal.
Viktor Orbán, Herbert Kickl and Andrej Babis, the presidents of Fidesz, the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) and the Czech ANO, announced last Sunday that they are creating a new party family called Patriots for Europe.
On Friday, the leader of the Freedom Party (PVV), which won the Dutch elections in November, Geert Wilders, announced that his party would join the party group. On Monday, Portugal's Chega party indicated that it would join the faction, then Spain's Vox said that it would join the Patriots for Europe party family, and Italy's League party leader Matteo Salvini said about joining that they were "working on it."
In order for the party family to be truly established, two important conditions must be met:
On the one hand, they need at least 23 MEPs,
and representatives of at least seven member states must join forces to form the representative group.
The 23 representatives have already come together through the three founders, but the other one has been hanging in the air until now. With the accession of DK, however, the second condition was also fulfilled, we have the seven member states.
From now on, there will be no obstacles for Viktor Orbán's dream to come true and for the Patriots for Europe party family to really found a faction.
