The government will extend by two years, until July 1, 2026, the deadline for childbearing loans for baby loans taken out between 2019 and 2021, the government spokesperson announced on Monday in Budapest, on the Government Information.

Eszter Vitályos justified the decision by saying that after the introduction of the baby loan in 2019, several unforeseen, unexpected, far-reaching, force majeure negative events occurred, such as the Covid epidemic, the war in Ukraine or the energy crisis.

The government believed that this could adversely affect the health condition, standard of living, and employment situation of Hungarian families, and thus significantly complicate the implementation of their plans to have children, he added.

He indicated: the repayment obligation will now affect a few hundred families until July, but by the end of the year it could affect even thousands of families, whose five-year term would expire, but whose children have not yet been born,

therefore, the government believes that it will be of great help to them if the deadline for having children is extended by two years.
