The Great Palace, which hosted the fencing matches, was also home to shocking defeats and great, unexpected victories from the Hungarian point of view, just like on Saturday. In men's dueling, defending world champion Máté Koch was eliminated in the first round, while Olympic silver medalist Gergely Siklósi was eliminated in the round of 16.
However, Tibor Andrásfi, who appeared in his first Olympics, marched beautifully and won several dramatic finals, and was finally able to fight for the bronze medal. This ace was also decided by a penalty kick, but this time the Hungarian fencer could not be happy, so he ended up in fourth place.
Flóra Pásztor competed brilliantly and reached the quarter-finals in the women's dagger individual - she lost to the later winner - and finished eighth.
Réka Pupp, who finished fifth in Tokyo, was able to compete for the bronze medal in the 52 kg weight group - she got there from the consolation bracket - but this time she fell short, so she finished fifth again. The 66-kilogram Bence Pongrácz finished unplaced.
Veronika Major, who reached the finals in first place in the sports shooters, finished eighth in the final of the air pistol, while Eszter Mészáros was 15th, Zalán Pekler was 17th, and István Péni was 18th in the basic competition of the air rifle.
Blanka Vas, who was surprisingly fourth in the Japanese capital three years ago, could not get close to the podium in mountain bike this time, he finished tenth, while Balázs Kaizinger, who was interested in his rider's individual competition, significantly improved his position in cross-country riding, so he is in 45th place before the final number, the show jumping.
The first Hungarian female boxing Olympian, Luca Hámori, won her qualifying match against her Irish rival at 66 kilos, but the tennis players recorded three failures in three matches and said goodbye.
In singles, Márton Fucsovics lost to the Spanish Rafael Nadal in a great fight, and Fábián Marozsán suffered a defeat in the first round against Ugo Humbert, representing the national team, while the doubles of the two fell short against a Dutch duo.
Bettina Lili Czifra from the qualifiers of the tournament made it to the final of the individual all-around, while Csenge Bácskay finished 12th in the vault, and Zója Székely, who joined the team at the last moment, finished 34th in the hurdles.
In swimming, the Hungarians failed to reach the final: Balázs Holló was 9th in the 400m medley, Gábor Zombori was 14th, Hubert Kós was 10th in the 100m backstroke, Ádám Jászó was 19th, Minna Ábrahám was 14th in the 200m breaststroke, Pádár And Nikolette was excluded.
As for the team sports: the women's handball team beat Brazil 25-24 after great excitement in the second match, thus achieving their first victory of the tournament, while the newly introduced men's water polo team squandered a big advantage and beat the hosts France 13-12 .
