The Hungarian women's handball team reached the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics after defeating Spain 27-24 in the fourth round of the group stage on Thursday.
The team of national team captain Vladimir Golovin did not find the rhythm at the beginning of the match, but with a three-goal deficit, after a timeout, they found themselves and turned it around.
He also led with four goals and kept his advantage by two until the break. In the 38th minute, the score was already 20-15, and although the Spaniards converted, the Hungarian team came out on top in the first half.
A week ago, the Hungarians lost 31-28 to the defending champions, hosts and world champions France, won 25-24 against Brazil on Sunday, drew with Angola 31-31 on Tuesday, and will close the group stage against the Dutch on Saturday.
The first four places advance to the quarter-finals.
