Well, from the narrative of EU bureaucrats!
The West was reluctant, but finally nodded. Moreover, the Ukrainians could use Western weapons on the territory of Russia. Kiev can easily escalate the war, they will not do anything.
Kyiv's latest offensive in the Kursk region of Russia received the green light from the allies, reports Politico . As it was written, Germany and other allies of Ukraine were reluctant to allow the Ukrainians to strike on Russian territory, but the Western reactions to the new offensive confirm that the Ukrainians have been given the green light.
There is no sign that Western allies are pressuring Kiev to halt the offensive - the aims of which are still unclear, as is whether they will be able to hold on to the captured territory.
But one thing is certain: four days after Kiev sent troops into Russia's Kursk region, there is no sign of peace.
"Ukraine has a right to self-defense enshrined in international law ," the German Foreign Ministry said in a statement to Politico. “It is not limited to its own territory”.
Many politicians of the German conservative opposition even more wholeheartedly supported the Ukrainian offensive - and the deployment of German weapons on Russian territory.
Roderich Kiesewetter, a senior Christian Democrat lawmaker, told Politico that it was perfectly legitimate to strike "stations" inside Russia with weapons donated by Germany.
"The question of whether they are Western weapons does not arise, because after they were delivered, they are Ukrainian weapons"
Kiesewetter said.
