The security policy analyst pointed out that the Ukrainian troops were able to attack in such a way that the Russian General Staff was not prepared for it.
The incursion of Ukrainian armed forces into Russian territory in the Kursk region has been going on for days. In relation to the situation, security policy expert György Nógrádi pointed out: at the moment it is known that it is still
before the attack, the Russian Chief of Staff received a report on the Ukrainian troop consolidation,
but this report may have been lost among the thousands of similar ones, and besides, it was thought that this threat should not be taken seriously, because the Kursk area was too far from the front.
- So far, the Ukrainians have occupied an area of approximately one thousand square kilometers, quite a few settlements. The problem is that even the last base of gas transportation in Russia, so they can block the gas coming to Europe at any moment, citing anything. The US General Staff announced that they were not aware of the attack, which is clearly not true. The British announced that they knew about it. Now, if the British knew about it, it is quite certain that they told the Americans as well, Nógrádi stated.
The analyst pointed out: this action basically does not affect the situation at the front.
"The Russians are slowly advancing in the Donbas region, but at the same time they have to bring serious forces to Kursk, in addition to the various reserve forces, the forces of the Wagner group and many other things, because they have to knock out the Ukrainians from there, from that large thousand square kilometers.
Putin formulated the most important task of the Ministry of Defense in such a way that the first priority is the recovery of Russian territories," reminded Nógrádi.
The analyst summarized Putin's peace plan, the essence of which was that "he is not even willing to negotiate about Crimea, he claims the four counties of Donbass, and Ukraine cannot be a member of NATO." However, after the Ukrainians attacked and quite a few civilians died here, Putin announced that his previous peace plan was off the agenda and that a new plan would be developed.
Regarding the fact that, according to some Ukrainian claims, they have occupied 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory, 74 settlements are under their control, while others are talking about controlling 30 settlements, Nógrádi stated:
- The two generals, both the Russian and the Ukrainian, lie a lot. I read the reports of both the Russian and Ukrainian generals every day, and they are not grateful.
In the latest report, the Ukrainians talk about nearly 600,000 Russian dead, this is impossible, it is impossible to say how many Russians there are on the entire front, but it cannot be that many dead. The Russians work with similar data. Obviously, both sides are waging a PR war, the analyst pointed out.
György Nógrádi recalled the statement of Donald Trump, who said: there is no Ukrainian military reserve, Ukraine must conclude a ceasefire and peace. "Meanwhile, a tough fight is going on between the Russians and the Ukrainians in Africa. Several African countries have severed diplomatic relations with Ukraine, so it is also very interesting that the crisis is starting to become global".
The security policy expert does not agree with those who believe that this Kursk attack could be the last major, essentially counterattack attempt by the Ukrainians in this war. “The key question is who will be the next president-elect of the United States on November 5. If it's Trump, then he will call Putin, they have a good relationship, and he will discuss the terms of peace. If the Democrats stay, then the current course will continue, so then it cannot be said that this was the last attack on Ukraine, because they will continue to send money and weapons”.
