According to László Kövér, the past decade has brought economic and living standards growth to Hungarians, which there are hardly any examples of in our history. The politician also talked about the Russian-Ukrainian war, demography and immigration.

The past ten years between 2012 and 2022 have been one of the most successful decades in Hungary's history - emphasized László Kövér, the Speaker of the Parliament, in his presentation held on Monday in Sátoraljaújhely, at the Összmagyar University Camp of the Rákóczi Association.

According to the Speaker of the House, it can be statistically proven that the country has not had ten consecutive years like this decade going back a hundred years.

This period brought economic and living standards growth to Hungarians

he stated.

László Kövér pointed out that the decade brought successes in all kinds of fields, in terms of cultural life, defense policy and national policy, of which there are no examples at all, or only very far away, in Hungarian history.

According to the Speaker of the House, the development during this period was not hindered by the coronavirus epidemic, and although there were difficulties, "we got out of them quite well". The war, on the other hand, dealt such a blow to the whole of Europe, including Hungary, the final outcome and consequences of which cannot be seen today, he added.

He noted that the everyday difficulties caused by the conflict are both economic and political in nature, and also affect national politics.

He emphasized

Hungary is the only country that is willing to represent its support for peace, and there is not much benefit from this, since some of the governments of European countries are interested in continuing the war.

A government that is not interested in this and thinks similarly to the Hungarian government is not in the political position to try to assert its position in practice, in joint European Union or North Atlantic decision-making, he said.

According to László Kövér, "the political and psychological terror of the war supporters reigns in Europe today," and the fact that the government takes its position alone causes serious disadvantages for the country.

Said,

at the moment, all the government's energy is tied up in keeping the country on an upward trajectory in the international environment in which everything is working against them, and at least protecting the achievements achieved so far.

In his speech, the Speaker also spoke about the fact that Hungary's objectives for the consecutive presidency of the European Union include the movement to restore European competitiveness, the overview of greyhound policy, as well as the issue of defense policy and defense policy cooperation.

Turning to demographics, László Kövér said,

the background of the demographic problem in Europe is illegal migration, and the experience of the last ten years shows that immigrants do not actually increase the number of dependents, but the masses of dependents.

He emphasized that, from the point of view of labor supply, it is necessary to try to get European societies back on their feet demographically, so that they can at least maintain themselves, i.e. reach a fertility rate of 2-2.1 from the current average of 1.6.

The President of the National Assembly called it important that a state can remain sovereign on its own, so that it can make its own decisions independently of external pressure.

He pointed out that sovereignty is the only means by which the government can enforce Hungary's national interests in a European cooperation, in order to continue the country's own democratic decision-making.

He said that today a significant part of the European Union debates is about how national interests could be pushed into the background and some other type of interest system could be imposed on European citizens.

According to László Kövér, politics and public life are not a kind of hobby or luxury, but a world in which decisions, when they are made, have an impact on people's lives. That's why young people should actively participate not only in the polls every four years, but also in the interim periods, because by doing so they can greatly help their own destiny.
