Now you can really see how much the Hungarian child protection law is needed! We hope the European Council will be wiser than the MEPs.

The members of the European Parliament voted for the "EU parental card" with 366 yes, 145 no and 23 abstentions.

The document is a new idea of the European Parliament to ensure that parental relationships established in one member state are recognized in other EU countries.

The ID card would guarantee that homosexual couples living in "rainbow families" in any EU country can maintain and exercise their parental rights, even if the country in question - for example Hungary - does not accept them as legal parents.

The MCC Brussels team shared their opinion on the matter on X:

“The EU Parent Card is a truly terrible idea in a place full of bad ideas. The members of the European Parliament have just approved it at the plenary session," they said.

“But the vote is just the opinion of the EU Parliament, which the Council can accept or completely ignore if it wants. The proposal now goes to the Council, where a unanimous vote is required. We hope that smarter minds will prevail”.
