Levente Varga, a 15-year-old student of the Csoma Sándor Kőrösi school in Budapest, was the first to raise the Hungarian flag at the North Pole as a member of the Icebreaker of Knowledge expedition.

Icebreaker of Knowledge reached the North Pole on board the Russian nuclear icebreaker 50 Let Pobedi (50th anniversary of victory). On the occasion of the event, the Hungarian participant of the expedition also raised the national flag in the Arctic region, Roszatom told MTI.

According to their announcement, the participants of the expedition, which was supported by Rosatom, were Russian students, as well as students from Bangladesh, South Africa, Belarus, India, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, China, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Mongolia, Armenia, Tunisia and Uzbekistan.

During the journey, the young people listened to scientific lectures, performed experiments and got to know the special flora and fauna of the Arctic.

    The expedition reached the North Pole on Saturday, the Hungarian participant of which, Levente Varga, a student of the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Két Tanítási Nyelvű Baptist High School, hoisted the Hungarian flag.

The fifth Icebreaker of Knowledge expedition reached the pole on the exact day when the Soviet nuclear icebreaker Arctic became the first ship in the world in 1977, the announcement reads.
