Although they haven't been grinding in the Hortobágy Mill for a long time, a century and a half ago, windmills drove the axles in the building. Ten years ago, it received a new function, saving Debrecen's industrial history monument from destruction. During its reconstruction, the original atmosphere of the building was preserved.
The renovation of the listed building took a long time, and finally in 2010 the construction of the current hotel could begin. In 2005, its current owners bought the building of the Hortobágy Mill in Debrecen, which was condemned to decay at the time. Previously, the previous owner of the mill carried out external renovations, but the inside of the building was in a completely neglected state, waiting for its fate to change for the better. The construction of the hotel started in 2010 and lasted more than 3 years.
Only the internal demolition and the construction of the new floors took 6-8 months. The construction was made difficult by the fact that it had to be done while maintaining the external appearance of the existing monument building. It was expected that the original atmosphere of the building would be preserved by recycling the dismantled wooden structure. That is why the restaurant's bar counter, ceiling, some elements of the reception and the doors were made from 100-year-old unfolded beams.
