Federal Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has brought new charges against Donald Trump in the case related to the 2020 presidential election.

The new motion of the prosecutor appointed by the US Department of Justice to replace the previous criminal indictment took into account the Supreme Court's decision on partial presidential impunity and narrowed down the criminal charges brought against Donald Trump accordingly.

The new accusation includes, among other things, that Donald Trump, as president, had an interest in being declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election, not as a result of his official position, but as a private person.

Former President Donald Trump and Republican presidential candidate Jack Smith brought criminal charges against him for obstructing the transfer of presidential power and on suspicion of attempting to change the results of the election for what happened after the November 2020 presidential election, partly in connection with the riots on January 6, 2021. According to the decision of the US Federal Supreme Court in June, the current president of the country is entitled to impunity for measures taken in his official capacity, but at the same time he can be held responsible for his actions as a private person.

Legal and political analysts say the new charge is unlikely to go to trial before the Nov. 5 election, but it is likely to become part of the legal process for the presidential campaign over the next more than two months.
