Defending his title, Luca Ekler won a gold medal in the long jump of the T38 category at the Paris Paralympics on Thursday with a performance of 5.56 meters. The athletes were greeted by extremely harsh conditions, it was only 17 degrees and it was raining in the morning at the Stade de France, where the Hungarian final was held at the beginning of the program, in which Ekler started as the Tokyo winner, world champion and world record holder, i.e. the absolute favorite.

The 25-year-old athlete of TFSE, a student of László Szalma, was able to exclude disturbing factors, jumping 5.52 meters already in the first place, with which he took a towering lead after the first series, he was the only one who went above five meters.

In the continuation, he improved by four centimeters, and since no one could break the five-meter barrier in the second series, it became clear that he is now competing only with himself, this year's best (5.63), and the world record he achieved two years ago, also in Paris (5.82). .

In the meantime, the rain stopped, but the finale was stopped for a long time due to a failure of the bar's sensor. Before and after the forced break, Luca Ekler entered twice, and then he got worse in the fifth series, and he also entered with his last attempt.

However, since no one came close to him before that - the second-placed German Nele Moos won the silver medal with 5.13 - he confidently defended his title and celebrated happily in front of a handful of Hungarians.

Ekler suffered a stroke in 2009, as a result of which his left side became paralyzed, but as a result of physiotherapy and physiotherapy treatment, now only visible symptoms remain on his left hand.

The athlete won the fourth medal of the Hungarian delegation in Paris: two gold, one silver and one bronze.
