The roof structure of the medical center of the Cave Bath in Miskolctapolca caught fire, announced the deputy spokesperson of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Disaster Management Directorate on Friday evening.

The damage is expected to be significant, with a local official saying there is a "real chance" the entire building will burn down.

The deputy spokeswoman, Zsuzsanna Rinyu, said that firefighters from Miskolc, Kazincbarcika and Tiszaújváros went to the scene, and the firefighting is managed by the Disaster Management Operations Service.

According to Zsuzsanna Rinyu, there is no information yet that anyone was injured at the scene.

It is known that the roof of the Aquatherapy department caught fire in the cave bath, but the fire spread to the main building of the facility in the meantime , the Miskolc portal minap.hu wrote in the meantime, which also shared a picture.

The mayor of Miskolc, Pál Veres, also arrived at the scene. "An hour ago, I received the news that the aquatherapy section of the cave bath caught fire. I'm already on site to find out. Firefighters are still working," he wrote.

In the video, he also said: "Despite intensive extinguishing, the flames are already spreading to the main building." He added: they are very confident that they will be able to control the flames at the roof structure.

Miskolc municipal representative Gábor Bajusz also shared a video and several photos from the scene.

"Due to the fire that happened today, our spa will be closed tomorrow!"

A post was published on the website of the Miskolctapolca Cave Spa and Aquatherapy, in which it was written:

Dear guests! We hereby inform you that due to the fire that occurred today, our spa will be CLOSED tomorrow!

"Spa tickets (wristbands) purchased from our accommodation partners can be used in the Ellipsum Experience Spa. Thank you for your understanding," they added.

The entire cave bath can burn down, the Disaster Management has ordered a special level

Upon arrival at the scene, after gathering information, it turned out that the fire started in the Aquatherapy department, starting from the saunas. Since the building was closed, human life was not in danger, so no public protection measures were necessary. Since it is a wooden building, the disaster management has assigned priority level 14, the damage will probably be significant

Rita Szántó, the press chief of the town hall, also stated that the firefighters "had a hard time extinguishing the fire, because part of the roof is made of sheet metal, and it was burning underneath, from where it spread to the wooden structures."
