The president of the Tisza party stated in several public forums during the campaign period that he would abolish the right of immunity, although he also stated that he would not take up his EP mandate, the latter of which has already turned out to be untrue. And since the five-garden scandal, his relationship with the right to immunity has also changed.
"We will abolish the right of immunity, of course. It makes no sense," said Péter Magyar on April 25 in Tamási.
And he repeated this statement in several places, in May, for example, Derecskén added that he would not take up his mandate as an EP representative, which would give him immunity. After the June elections, however, he decided instead to sit in the EP.
"I asked you to give me back my phone and I'm not even here anymore, he started pushing me and hit me once more," this is how the man whose phone Péter Magyar reportedly took and threw into the Danube recalled to the Magyar Nemzet about the five-garden scandal.
At the beginning of the summer, the then newly elected EP representative went to a party in a downtown nightclub, several video recordings were made of this, and because of his scandalous behavior he was escorted out of the Ötkert by security guards.
Magyar Nemzet reporters asked Péter Magyar several times whether he threw the phone in question into the Danube, and whether he wanted to exercise his right to immunity, but he never once answered the questions. Although he tried to avoid the topic in the ATV, it definitely seems from his answers that he no longer considers the right of immunity to be "unnecessary".
Péter Magyar can also check the rubric of discredit in this, said Mr. Zoltán Lomnici.
The constitutional lawyer reminded that although the politician had previously said that he would abolish the right of immunity, he nevertheless seems to enjoy the protection provided by this institution.
He also added that the act that took place according to press reports could also raise the suspicion of the crime of robbery.
