When a priest claims something, we can usually take it at face value. Of course, it doesn't matter. who is the priest
Gábor Iványi, head of the Hungarian Evangelical Brotherhood (MET) spoke to Magyar Hang. He claimed that Viktor Orbán sent him a message around 2000 that "if he poses for a joint photo with him, he will receive special support" . And he allegedly texted back, saying he didn't claim it.
In any case, Bertalan Havasi, the prime minister's press chief, speaking to Mandiner, called pastor Gábor Iványi's claim that he and Viktor Orbán exchanged messages years ago as outright lies.
"Viktor Orbán does not usually send messages to anyone, including Gábor Iványi. A lie is not a nice thing, especially from a priest"
said the press chief.
Who knows who is right? Although the claim is rather strange and this is only a subtle approximation of what we can assume. Knowing Viktor Orbán, it at least seems improbable that the prime minister - even then - would have been so eager for a photo with Ivány that he would have accepted the aforementioned strange offer.
But God's ways are inscrutable.
