The HÖOK Mentoring Program supports the integration, studies and scholarship opportunities of disadvantaged students.

Hungarian higher education was renewed in order to have successful young people - said Balázs Hankó at the meeting with the National Conference of Student Self-Governments (HÖOK), whose focus was on the further development of students' careers. According to the minister responsible for culture and innovation, the key to this is, among other things, the development of university dormitories and the improvement of student living conditions, the ministry told MTI.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, at the consultation held in the ministry's building, several issues that strengthen the students' success were on the agenda: they agreed that the National College Development Strategy needs to be restarted, in which, in addition to the expansion of dormitory places, the improvement of the quality of the colleges should be set as a goal.

They also discussed the issue of student regulations, in which the minister emphasized that the renewed higher education institutions should play a role in the development of the appropriate support system and the expansion of financing options, but it is also worth investigating the optimal use of student loans, they wrote.

The minister also provided information on the sector manager's recommendation, which includes ensuring adequate student representation in the university senate, they added, along with the fact that they also discussed reducing dropout rates and ensuring the mental well-being of students.

Based on the announcement, Balázs Hankó highlighted:

with the renewal of university admissions in recent years, the number of admissions has increased, the dropout rate has decreased, more people are attending technical, natural science, engineering and IT courses, and the academic performance of universities has increased. In addition, the HÖOK Mentor Program, launched jointly with the Student Self-Government with a budget of HUF 1 billion, helps the integration, studies and scholarship opportunities of disadvantaged students entering higher education..

The minister emphasized that the renewed Hungarian higher education is competitive and attractive, as more than 90,000 people have been admitted to higher education institutions for the second year in a row, Hungarian universities hold their own at the international level, 12 domestic institutions are in the top 5 percent of the world's universities.

Negotiations with HÖOK will continue, as the Hungarian government is committed to promoting the success of Hungarian higher education and Hungarian students, the ministry's announcement reads.
