The Fidesz EP representative wrote a letter to Manfred Weber, the group leader of the European People's Party.
In a letter shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday night, the politician, as the head of the Hungarian delegation of the Patriots, informed Manfred Weber that the chief prosecutor of Hungary had recently submitted a motion to the President of the European Parliament to suspend the immunity of Péter Magyar, Member of the European Parliament, President of the Tisza Party (EPP), theft for his crime.
"Based on the information discovered during the investigation into the case and the information that has come to light so far, on June 21, 2024, in the early hours of June 21, 2024, in a drunken state, Péter Magyar was partying in a nightclub in Budapest and behaved in a scandalous manner, for which the security guards of the nightclub were forced to take him out with a chokehold," he recalled what happened. Tamás Deutsch.
The Fidesz politician also pointed out that in the nightclub, among others, the victim of the criminal case took a video of Péter Magyar with his mobile phone.
"After Péter Magyar and one of his companions noticed that the victim was making recordings, they got into an argument with him. During the argument, Péter Magyar suddenly took the phone out of the victim's hand and put it in his pocket. He did not return the phone even to the victim's repeated requests, he denied that he had it. After being escorted out of the nightclub, he headed towards the Danube, followed by several people, including the victim. The representative walked directly down to the waterfront and deliberately dropped the phone into the Danube. According to the Prosecutor's Office, this behavior is suitable for the realization of the legal facts of the crime of theft".
Deutsch reminded: in response to the prosecutor's motion, Péter Magyar announced that he would not waive his immunity, so the European Parliament must decide on its suspension.
"In order to avoid being held accountable, Péter Magyar is apparently doing everything he can to make his disco scandal and the proceedings for the common law crime he committed a political persecution.
However, the right of immunity is not intended to allow the members of the European Parliament to place themselves above the law and to avoid prosecution for common-law crimes by abusing their position," wrote Tamás Deutsch.
"In view of all this, I respectfully ask that, as the faction leader of the European People's Party, he immediately make it public, they will not lend a helping hand to the abusive use of immunity, they will not be Péter Magyar's accomplices in avoiding prosecution. The laws apply to everyone, even Péter Magyar," said the politician.
