Over the past twenty years, more than five hundred large international productions have been made in Hungary.

Hungary has become the second European film production center after London, said Csaba Káel, the government commissioner responsible for the development of the Hungarian national motion picture industry, at the opening of the Hungarian film festival in London organized under the title Made in Hungary.

Speaking to the public media at an event organized at the Hungarian House in London, Csaba Káel said: the degree of development is indicated by the fact that more than five hundred major international productions have been made in Hungary in the past twenty years.

The fact that crews from all over the world come to Hungary for filming is not only due to the largely uniform tax refund in Europe, but also to the fact that Hungary is a very safe location and has excellent studio facilities.

- said the government commissioner at the festive event that lasted into Thursday night.

Csaba Káel recalled that there are five studio complexes available to production crews around Budapest.

He added: the Hungarian professionals are also excellent, since Hungarian film production is 123 years old, and the accumulated knowledge has been continuously taken over by the new generations of filmmakers.

Csaba Káel said:

the expansion of the National Film Institute's studio in Fót will be completed by the end of this year, and this in itself means a 22 percent expansion of studio capacity in Hungary.

One of the goals of the Hungarian Film Days in London is to draw the attention of British producers and production companies visiting the event to this development, said the government commissioner.

He added that co-production film production is also a priority, as the works produced in this way reach much larger markets.

In his presentation at the opening of the event, Csaba Káel said: Budapest is the number one film production and TV production center in continental Europe, and the production crews working in Hungary spent 910 million dollars last year, four times as much as in 2018.

Within this, the number of large works made with a budget exceeding 1.5 million dollars has doubled, emphasized the government commissioner.

He also said that

Hungarian specialists occupy an increasing proportion of key positions during the production of international productions made in Hungary. This process has reached the point where 80 percent of the production crews are Hungarian experts.

It was also said at the presentation that since 1934, the works of Hungarian filmmakers have been awarded 27 Oscars.
