The relevant EU ministers reject Amsterdam's special trip.
The migration ministers of the European Union member states met recently. The Netherlands' plan to request an exception from the application of EU migration policy was discussed at the meeting.
The exception called "opt-out" is also requested by Hungary, and our country does not want to participate in the current order of EU migration policy either.
However, at the EU ministerial meeting held in Luxembourg, several ministers rejected the plans of the Dutch.
According to German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, the "opt-out" is not a good idea. Swedish EU Commissioner Ylva Johansson emphasized:
to implement the Dutch idea, the basic treaties of the EU would have to be amended, because there is no possibility of exceptions based on the currently valid treaties.
As the European Conservative points out, the Dutch proposal would be an answer to the problem that member states cannot deport rejected asylum seekers. The Netherlands, on the other hand, is one of the main destinations for mass migration, and the mass of immigrants places a heavy burden on public services in the small, overpopulated country.
And the countries sending out the migrants do not want to cooperate with the European states groaning under the burden of immigration, and they do not welcome back those who leave in large numbers.
If the migrants lose their personal documents on the way, or if they leave them directly, then the migrants remain in a legal limbo between the issuing and targeted but rejecting countries.
The Dutch want "reversal points" at the EU's external borders (far from the Netherlands), but other countries prefer "unity" in migration policy.
Swedish Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer, for example, believes that the EU migration pact is efficient and functional, and he does not think that individual countries should seek individual solutions.
