From October 15, passengers will be able to take their bicycles with them on the entire HÉV line, both inside and outside the capital, with a BKK line or collective ticket. They can even buy a ticket for their bicycle at a similar price, valid on the entire HÉV line, from the MÁV mobile application or from MÁV machines.

Passenger-friendly development is being implemented the Ministry of Construction and Transport, the MÁV group and the Budapest Transport Center , which is good news mainly for passengers preparing for a bicycle tour around the capital, but also for those who are forced to use a - take the bicycle with you on public transport once.

Thanks to the development, cyclists can more easily and simply exchange their bicycle ticket for the HÉV.

From Tuesday 15 October 2024

bicycles can be transported along the entire length of the HÉV lines by validating a BKK line ticket or BKK collective ticket, but in addition, the HUF 500 of the HÉV lines – and the Bicycle Country Pass will still remain.

The development does not affect the area of validity of the BKK bicycle pass, since even after October 15 it is only valid on the capital section, up to the administrative border of Budapest. The MÁV group continues to offer passengers who regularly travel by bicycle the national bicycle pass, which is valid for 30 days on some MÁV group, GySEV and BKK flights for HUF 4,950.

The new option only applies to the cost of transporting the bicycle, however, the passenger must still have a valid ticket, pass or certificate for free travel for the given section!

If someone wants to take a bicycle with them on the HÉV, they must pay attention to the following rules, which have not changed.

During the trip, a passenger can take only one bicycle with him, and its size must not exceed 180 x 130 x 70 centimeters (length/height/width). During the trip, the bicycle must be secured securely.

A total of four bicycles can be transported in the middle car of HÉVs in the specially designed part, given that toys with smaller wheels, such as children's bikes or scooters, are not considered bicycles, but luggage, so they can be transported free of charge on HÉVs. A bicycle pictogram painted on the platform of HÉV stops indicates at which door you can board a bicycle. Bicycles may only be transported on the HÉV only in designated places and in designated carriages, not elsewhere, even if there are no more bicycles in the designated section, announced the Communications Directorate of MÁV Zrt.
