Viktor Orbán said this on Kossuth Radio on Friday morning about the Ukrainian president's new victory plan, and also added that he would like to see a government acting as a substitute for Brussels in Budapest. Video!
The Hungarian Prime Minister traveled to Brussels on Wednesday for the first summit of the countries of the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). On Thursday, Viktor Orbán took part in the meeting of the European Council.
There are the others, and us"
Viktor Orbán said at the beginning of the conversation that there are two groups in the European Union regarding the war in Ukraine. "The EU is behaving like a belligerent party. Hungary indicated at the beginning: this is a bad strategy. This war cannot be won. We need a diplomatic solution, we need to negotiate," said the prime minister.
Zelensky presented his victory plan to the European Council.
“But please, what has he had so far? We thought they were following a winning plan so far. Now it turns out not. What used to be a plan turned out to be a plan of defeat and now they want to switch to another one. We indicated at the beginning that we would not participate in this"
Orbán underlined.
Viktor Orbán said that he did not hear from Zelenskyi's words that their plan was to develop an atomic bomb, but the very possibility of it scares people. According to the prime minister, all EU countries have a war strategy, and the European People's Party (EPP) led by Manfred Weber is the most strongly committed to war.
Brussels would like to see a government acting as a regent in Budapest
Viktor Orbán emphasized that the EPP launched an open attack on the Hungarian government. It was also revealed in the EU debate in Strasbourg that the People's Party wants to overthrow the sovereignist government and wants a policy in Hungary that is favorable to Brussels.
"The problem is that what we do in Hungary is what the European people want, while European governments are doing the exact opposite"
Orbán said. According to the Prime Minister, the fact that there is no migration crisis in Hungary is something many people would trade. He believes
Hungary is a thorn under my fingernail, which puts European governments in an uncomfortable position.
According to Viktor Orbán, the aforementioned attacks in Brussels increase Hungary's authority. He said this in connection with the fact that he met Olaf Scholz this week, he will visit Emmanuel Macron next week, and there will be a Serbian-Slovak-Hungarian summit, the main topic of which will be migration.
In response to economic policy questions, the Prime Minister said: a 21-point economic development plan is being developed, through which growth can accelerate. Orbán stated: Hungary must follow its own path in the field of economy and he trusts that we can avoid involvement in the war. The doubling of tax benefits for children and the Sándor Demján Program will be part of the new economic policy, he said.
In 2025, there will be a spectacular change in everyday life as well
he added.
He said about European economic policy: if we don't compete, if we close ourselves off, we will live worse and worse. He noted that in the West, tax increases are ongoing. "You can't stand high taxes and high energy prices, so you can't compete. Hungary started on a path in 2010, but in the meantime a new situation arose in the world: the competitiveness of the USA and China became stronger. On the other hand, closing down is not the solution," he stated.
