Every Covid orphan is accompanied through the journey of becoming an adult and supported in everything.
The Regőczi Foundation, which supports Covid-orphans, will have work to do for decades to come, stated the president of the foundation's board of trustees during the trip to Fehérvárcsurgó organized for its supporters.
Anita Herczegh, the wife of former President János Áder, said during a visit to Károlyi Castle in Fejér County that when the foundation was launched three and a half years ago, the number of Covid orphans was estimated at five hundred, later it exceeded 1,650.
Since then, this number has been decreasing, because more of the children have grown up, finished their studies, are working, that is, have started an independent life, so they do not need the support of the foundation.
The chairman of the board of trustees emphasized that even in 2022, two years ago, three Covid orphans were born who had lost their fathers by then, so the foundation will have a lot of work to do in the coming decades.
He indicated that they want to follow through on what they agreed to do, to accompany every Covid orphan through the journey of becoming an adult and to support them in everything, not only financially, but also with psychological and legal help, as well as educational help.
Anita Herczegh mentioned that when the foundation started, the most important thing was quick financial help for the families, since they lost one of the breadwinners due to the epidemic.
Over time, however, they realized that this alone is not enough, because if the widows are not made easier to deal with grief, if the children do not get experiences and programs that are difficult to implement in a single-parent family, then they are not helping enough.
He added that most of the foundation's work now consists of organizing camps and all-day trips, which is particularly important before the Day of the Dead, as their supporters are still very much in mourning and this is a painful time for them.
György Károlyi, the founder of the József Károlyi Foundation, which operates the castle, emphasized that they try to organize events where guests can feel good.
He believes that the supporters of the Regőczi Foundation perhaps demand this even more, which is why, for example, they lifted Sándor Károlyi's three-glazed travel trunk with them, and also showed them the stairs leading to the gallery of the library, accessible through a mysterious door.
