The XIII. district public space will soon be renamed Pesti Srácok promenade.
The Capital Assembly met again on Wednesday. Towards the end of the meeting, which was almost a marathon, government representative Béla Radics said,
their goal is to create the Pesti Srácok promenade in the heart of Budapest, and to rename the public space registered with the name of Gyula Horn.
Balázs Balogh, the representative of the Tisza party, also spoke, who suggested that the promenade in question should be named after Ilona Tóth, convicted in 1956, instead of the Pesti Srácok. At the same time, Sándor Szaniszló, leader of the Democratic coalition, stated that they will not support the renaming of the Gyula Horn promenade.
Dávid Vitézy, leader of the Podmaniczky Movement, also spoke on the subject. He stated
"the current debate also clearly shows that public spaces should not be too hastily named after recently deceased persons".
Mayor Gergely Karácsony responded to Vitézy's words by saying that he does not specifically support renaming the promenade.
"My proposal is that instead of a pufajkás, the capital assembly proposes the XIII. district, to rename the public space in question Pesti Srácok promenade", added the proponent of the proposal, Béla Radics,
then, in response to Sándor Szaniszló's speech, he pointed out that the DK politician is the heir of puffers like Gyula Horn.
Radics' proposal was finally accepted, so the XIII. Horn Gyula Promenade in the district. Only Karácsony voted against this.
