According to the former mayor, Péter Magyar has only proven so far that he can create scandal, atmosphere and confusion.
István Tarlós, the former mayor of Budapest, on Egon Rónai's show . Among other things, the presenter asked the former city manager about topics such as the renovation of the Chain Bridge or the recent flooding, but the Péter Magyar phenomenon was also discussed.
Egon Rónai asked the former mayor what he thought about the rise of the Tisza Party. In response to this question, Tarlós stated that "the liberal obsession, which has always given me goosebumps, that a person has two types of character: one as a private person, one character as a politician, there is no such thing in the world".
I'm not saying this in Hungarian, but in general: whoever is a villain as a politician is also a villain as a private person".
He then also spoke about how the pro-government media would handle the question of Péter Magyar's side more restrainedly. "Willingly and unwittingly, Magyar is promoted. (…) This person should not be elevated to the level of the prime minister," he emphasized.
"Whether I would trust Péter Magyar or not, I have to say yes
under no circumstances would I be able to trust someone who pursues such a policy with his past and appears to the public in such a way."
He added to what was said that "Péter Magyar has so far proven that he can create a scandal, create an atmosphere, create confusion. He is a figure who very skilfully rides a situation that is pleasant for the few protest voters," István Tarlós expressed his opinion.
Péter Magyar has not yet proven himself
He then pointed out that
So far, Péter Magyar has not proven in any way that he can find a solution to any problem.
He has done nothing to prove that he has the skills to lead a country or a larger system. And actually, it doesn't even have a program in a practical sense. When the time comes, I can imagine that Péter Magyar's popularity will drop rapidly," István Tarlós outlined a possible scenario.
