More and more often we find examples of the ambiguous use of the phrase "goodbye".
" See you soon : I say, nevertheless, nevertheless. / See you - tomorrow. / Or if not tomorrow - then the day after tomorrow. / Or if not then - then later. / And if not - maybe in a year. / And if not even then - well, in a thousand years. / See you in the dust of the earth, / See you in the sky. / See you again in the court of the moon, / Or on one of the stars of the Milky Way – / »Happy reunion « still, still! Sándor Reményik writes.
The title of one of Jenő Józsi Tersánszky's short novels is: " See you soon , dear".
"Time shrugs its shoulders, / shrugs it off resignedly, / doesn't even stand at the cemetery's / wide-open gate. // He doesn't stay there either, he just looks back: / cannon, you brave! / Do not be afraid, the earth will not be heavy, / goodbye , at the resurrection.” Sándor Kányádi Time shrugs its shoulders c. we quoted his poem. In these quotes, the wording is perfect: (a) see you again! farewell, thank you, expressing the possibility and hope of a reunion.
The abbreviation - goodbye! - the confidential expression suitable for conversational language, it has a stylistic function in fiction, as in Kányádi's poem, it can refer, among other things, to the "friendship" of the artist and time, and the fact that, in its profane state, it is adjacent to a sacred expression, creates a vivid contrast, a tension takes me to my poetry race. We should have no problem with the song " goodbye , summer!" or even the phrase " goodbye , spring!" with thanks.
But more and more often we find examples of the ambiguous use of the phrase "goodbye". The public discourse and the media picked up this word to express freedom from some inconvenience, i.e. a final farewell:
"goodbye, depression!" ; "goodbye, greasy hair" ; "goodbye, digestive problems!" (Often without a comma, i.e. incorrectly, e.g.: "goodbye acne" ; "goodbye parasites" .) In such cases, the original meaning of the word (a farewell wishing to meet again) and the content intended to be communicated (the hope of getting rid of the problem) come into conflict. and confusing, amusing manifestations arise as a result of this illogical expansion of meaning. Instead of the desire for the permanent cessation of the indicated problem, the communication refers to the exact opposite of this.
Not caring about this, the media continues to shout: "goodbye, spring fatigue!" ; " Goodbye, autumn depression! "; " goodbye, armpit smell !"; "goodbye, pollen allergy!" ; "goodbye, itching and redness!" ; "bye bloat!" ; "goodbye, constipation!" ; "goodbye, diarrhea!" ; "goodbye, stale towel and smelly washing machine" ; "goodbye, welcome back!" ; "goodbye, bacteria" ; " goodbye, stench and sewer smell !"
However, hardly anyone wants to meet any of those listed again... If possible, preferably not even once.
