The Debrecen municipality issued a press release stating that Péter Magyar "threatened" them after they could not find a suitable location for their country tour's stop there, Index . Magyar wanted to be able to hold his country tour event in a sports hall, but at that time all possible venues were already reserved for other programs.
"In the past 30 years, no political party has approached Debrecen Municipality with such an absurd request that the municipality or the mayor's office take care of the location of their political event on their behalf. The Tisza Party wants to create the impression that this is a local government task and not a party task.
If, after the announcement of the event, without any preparation, it occurs to someone to desperately look for a venue in Debrecen at short notice, it is possible that they will no longer find a facility that meets their needs.
- they said in the press release written by Mayor László Papp.
The city manager added: I reject the suggestion that the mayor of Debrecen should coordinate the events of the Tisza Party instead of Péter Magyar and his team. I have never done that for any political party, and I will not do so in the future.
In the announcement, "For the sake of clarity - based on the information available to me - it can be said that at the time indicated by the Tisza Party, the municipal government of Debrecen directly or indirectly
at event venues, events recorded and reserved months in advance take place.
Without claiming to be exhaustive: preparations for the Women's European Handball Championship are taking place in the Főnix Arena and the Imre Hódos Sports Hall, a ribbon-cutting ball is being held in the Kölcsey Center, and a basketball match is taking place in the Oláh Gábor Street sports hall."
"Do Péter Magyar and his team seriously think that any event should be postponed because he wants to hold a political meeting in Debrecen? In light of the disorganization and unpreparedness of the Tisza Party, I find Péter Magyar's threat to me outrageous," wrote László Papp, who also quoted verbatim the "threat" he claimed he received from Magyar:
Please do not force us to hold our event in front of the mayor's office, and help so that thousands of Debrecen residents, including children and the elderly, do not have to stand on the street for hours in freezing temperatures and snow.
"After poor preparation, I consider it a cowardly thing on the part of Péter Magyar and his team to shift their own responsibility to the mayor or municipality of Debrecen.
All duties and responsibilities for this event lie with Péter Magyar and the Tisza Party.
There are certainly people who run away from Péter Magyar's threats. In my oath as mayor, I swore for the benefit, benefit and survival of the people of Debrecen. In this spirit, for the sake of Péter Magyar and the Tisza Party, I will not ban any ribbon-cutting, cultural or sports events! ", concluded the mayor's statement.
