The initiative is linked to Zelensky's party.
A member of parliament from the Servant of the People party, which is behind Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, has nominated US President-elect Donald Trump for next year's Nobel Peace Prize. Andriy Merezsko, the chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Ukrainian legislature, notes the nomination letter, according to which the future head of state of the United States was the first to support Ukraine with military equipment.
He emphasized that he signed his nomination letter not only as a member of parliament, but also as a law professor. "According to the rules of the Nobel Committee, professors can also nominate candidates," he explained.
According to the representative, he nominated Donald Trump for the award for his diplomatic achievements during his previous presidential term, for strengthening Ukraine's military capabilities, and in the hope that the future US president's European peacemaking plan will be based on international law.
"First of all, during his first presidential term, Donald Trump contributed to the conclusion of the so-called Abraham Accords, which was a very significant diplomatic achievement," explained the politician. The Abraham Accords refer to the bilateral agreements that Israel concluded with Arab countries on the normalization of their relations through American mediation.
Second, in my opinion, Trump made a significant contribution to the fight against Russian aggression and strengthened Ukraine's military capabilities. In fact, Trump was the first US president to provide military assistance to Ukraine
Merezsko explained his decision, recalling that the United States began to transfer Javelin anti-tank systems to Ukraine during the presidency of Donald Trump.
In addition, according to the representative, Trump strengthened the coalition of Western countries to defend Ukraine against Russian aggression and opposed the construction of the Nord Stream-2 Russian gas pipeline.
He also mentioned that, judging by the speeches and statements of the US president-elect, Trump wants to achieve a just peace in Ukraine.
