László Varju is also guilty of disorderly conduct, physical assault and a crime against the order of elections, but Ferenc Gyurcsány announced that the convicted László Varju will be re-run in the by-election in Újpest.

The previous verdict in the case of László Varju, the parliamentary representative of the Democratic Coalition, was upheld, so the decision is legally binding: the politician was sentenced to a fine of HUF 900,000. At the trial, the judge said, "violence is not a permissible means of exercising the right of representation."

Previously, László Varju was found guilty in the second degree of disorderly conduct, bodily harm as a result of what happened at the MTVA headquarters, as well as election fraud in another case,

the politician was fined at the time, but then appealed, Index wrote.

In the first case, according to the indictment, Varju, as a DK representative candidate during the campaign, wanted to get an independent representative to step down in order to increase his chances of victory, to whom he promised financial compensation. The other two charges are related to the scandal caused by the opposition at the MTVA headquarters in December 2018, when Varju and his fellow politicians went on a rampage in the building, clashing with the security service there. According to the accusation, the representative caused an injury to a security guard that took more than eight days to heal, the Mandiner wrote.

After the second-instance verdict, the member of parliament said that there is a conceptual procedure against him. Máté Kocsis, the faction leader of Fidesz, called on László Varju to leave public life after the verdict at the time.

The next round of the hearing of László Varju's case took place exactly one week ago, on Tuesday morning, when the decision was finally made that the announcement of the court's verdict was postponed until December 3.

It was finally revealed at the meeting of the Court on Tuesday morning: they upheld the previous verdict, so the decision is legally binding, so they sentenced László Varju to a fine of HUF 900,000. The judge said, among other things, "the essence of the Court's decision in one sentence: violence is not a permissible means of exercising the right of representation".

Telex reminds me:

based on the legislation, like András Fekete-Győr, Varjut will soon be stripped of his mandate by the parliament.

Ferenc Gyurcsány announced that the convicted László Varju will run again in the by-election in Újpest

Although the Court also found him guilty, according to the Democratic Coalition, a political verdict was reached in the case, which is why Varjut is once again recommended to the voters.

Since Varju entered the parliament in 2022 not from a list, but from an individual constituency, it is expected that by-elections will be held in Újpest and Angyalföld at the beginning of next year.

Ferenc Gyurcsány, the president of the DK, reacted to the Court's verdict on his Facebook page, in which he wrote that he believes a political decision has been made in the case, and therefore his party will run Varjut again in the by-election in Újpest, which he believes they will win again together with the local residents.

In April 2022, László Varju won with a result of 50.82 percent against his opponent from Fidesz, the former mayor of Újpest, Zsolt Wintermantel, who then obtained 39.08 percent.
