These crimes are present in many layers of society, but they often give the impression that they are acts committed only by members of the church.

The Catholic Church acts resolutely and in accordance with stricter standards than secular laws against sexual crimes committed against children, and thinks with compassion for those who have suffered serious abuse from members of the Church, reads the statement of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference (MKPK).

News reports about sexual crimes against children indicate that these crimes are present in many layers of society, but they often make it seem as if they are only committed by members of the church - highlights the announcement of the MKPK, which also emphasizes that anyone follows apart from these, each such act is a serious crime or even a crime.

Therefore, the church acts against them firmly and according to stricter regulations than secular laws, the communique states.

"As we have already expressed, we think with sympathy and pain for those who have suffered serious abuse from members of the church. The Catholic Church stands by the affected victims and communities, we pray for them and help them recover. According to the provisions of our Church, we strive to detect and prevent such cases," said the body of bishops.

In the announcement, the bishops encourage the clergy, monks and their colleagues working in church institutions to continue faithfully performing their service and thank them for their sacrificial work.
