A pro-European coalition was formed in the Romanian parliament by the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Save Romania Association (USR), the Democratic Association of Romanian Hungarians (RMDSZ), and the parliamentary faction of national minorities. The news was announced by the Acting President of the PNL, Ilie Bolojan, on Wednesday evening.
According to the joint statement of the parties involved in the agreement, the coalition was created for the stability and modernization of Romania.
Bolojan stated: the intention of the coalition formations is to strengthen Romania's commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic values, because these are the foundations of the country's security and prosperity.
The mentioned parties assume responsibility for avoiding Romania's international isolation, supporting a solid pace of economic development, protecting the country's European trajectory, using European funds, implementing the reforms of the national recovery plan, and meeting the objectives of joining the Schengen zone and the OECD, he stated. Bolojan.
At the same time, the acting chairman of the PNL appealed to the population to vote in the second round of the presidential election on December 8 based on thorough information and a rational decision.

He also said that the coalition will start negotiations on the government program next week and will focus on the presidential election until Sunday. The agreement was signed by Sorin Grindeanu on behalf of PSD, Ilie Bolojan on behalf of PNL, Dominic Fritz on behalf of USR, Attila Cseke on behalf of RMDSZ, and Varujan Pambuccian on behalf of national minorities other than Hungarian.
The goal of the coalition formed on Wednesday is to ensure political stability and the country's European path, while at the same time isolating the propagators of legionary and extremist ideologies, Kelemen Hunor told Agerpres on Wednesday evening.
The president of the RMDSZ said that the conclusion of the coalition also means that they all support Elena Lasconi in the second round of the presidential election.
Kelemen called it gratifying that none of the listed political groups wants to enter into a coalition with the Association for the Unification of Romanians (AUR) or with SOS Romania.
He added that the four-party coalition will have to work out the public policies expected by the population.
He also said that he hoped PSD and PNL understood the message of the voters and "will not continue what they have done for a year and a half".
According to Kelemen Hunor, the negotiations have not concluded, but Wednesday's agreement was necessary to get the message of the signatories to the people.
