It is important that we are not thematized by our technical devices, but that we use the potential inherent in our devices, said the KDNP politician.
Digitization presents Christianity with new challenges, as well as new opportunities - said György Hölvényi, member of the European Parliament of the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP), member of the Patriots for Europe representative group at the conference Our Europe - The next generation, Christian identity in the digital age in Budapest on Friday.
Digitization now directly or indirectly affects almost all the inhabitants of the Earth, in the light of this we need to formulate questions and find answers to how this affects Christian identity, he noted.
He added that an unfathomable amount of content and information is uploaded to the world wide web every moment. Some people are filled with fear, while others believe that the phenomenon of digitization is a new, even more effective tool for Christians, said György Hölvényi.
According to the KDNP EP representative, it is important that we are not thematized by our technical devices, but that we use the potential of our devices.
"Tonight, at this event, there were eighty of us, but hundreds of thousands can see what we talked about, and this is definitely an advantage and an opportunity," he emphasized.
Juan Narbona Cárceles, professor of the Faculty of Institutional Social Communication of the Holy Cross Pontifical University, János Andrásfalvy, Salesian monk, Provincial Superior of the Hungarian Salesian Province, and Attila Nyári, pastor of Golgotha Christian Church, online content creator, gave a presentation at the event.
The participants discussed the impact of large social media platforms on our lives, including on the situation of Christianity.
The speakers agreed that social media poses a lot of dangers to users, but they also found that the digital space is also an opportunity for Christianity, which in many cases means reaching out to the younger generations.
