The Hungarian carpenter, who has already received many unique orders from different parts of the world, can rightly be called world famous. He made furniture for Princess Katalin, among others, and most recently participated in the renovation of the burned down cathedral.
Few people know, but a Hungarian carpenter also worked on the renovation of Notre Dame, which burned down in 2019. Árpád Rostás grew up in a children's home - it was here that he fell in love with carpentry and wood carving. Over many decades, he learned from famous masters, or even all their secrets, and now
he became a world-renowned master carpenter by restoring wooden furniture in poor condition and making marquetry.
Árpád Rostás previously worked at the Carmelite Monastery, Schönbrunn, the Louvre in Paris, the Palace of Versailles, and he even made a cradle for the daughter of Duchess Katalin; and last year he was asked to take part in the renovation of the burned Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris by restoring the wooden furniture.
Árpádot Rostás brought hundreds of years of wood from Hungary to restore the furniture of Notre Dame in Paris, which he bought while demolishing the basement of a castle.
The master carpenter was approached at the French embassy in Hungary asking him to submit an application, as they had heard that he was a unique artist in the world. The French believed that Rostás's expertise was indispensable for the furniture of Notre Dame to shine as it did in its original light.
The carpenter did the test work: he had to restore a broken and rotted chair from 1880 to look the same as when it was made. Árpád Rostás impressed the judges with his work, according to the artist, tears came to their eyes from the joy that they had finally found a specialist who can restore hundreds of years of furniture in a unique way in the world.
As you know, the world-famous cathedral of Paris was re-inaugurated last weekend, and the first mass was already held.
