The word of the year was chosen by the public media, the press and marketing office of the Media Services Support and Management Fund (MTVA) announced on Monday.

According to the announcement, in 2024 the word "faith" was chosen as the word of the year by the Montágh Board; the organization that watches over beautiful Hungarian speech aims to nurture the Hungarian language and culture, thereby preserving the national identity.

"According to the board's reasoning, we especially need our faith in God and each other," they said.

"The word of the Year 2024 is a noun derivative of the verb to believe, its meaning includes trust in the providence that holds the world together and protects in all circumstances, the ability to trust each other, and, rising above earthy logic, our ability to believe in divine and human goodness , no matter what happens around us," reads the board's decision.

Every year, the members of the advisory, commenting, proposing and controlling board belonging to the MTVA organization select the one word that most clearly refers to the events of the given year, and draws attention to the most important value in the midst of changing circumstances and global challenges.

"The priority task of the Montágh Board is to nurture the native language and behavioral culture, thereby supporting the preservation and creation of cultural values," reads the announcement.

From 2020, the word of the year will be announced in December of each year by the public service media based on the vote of the members of the board; In 2020, they chose "each other", in 2021, "family", in 2022, "peace", and in 2023, "child".
