It took him two months to recover.
The employees of the Kiskunság National Park Directorate found a desert buzzard with damaged wings in the outskirts of Apaj during their field trip. After the successful capture of the bird, the feathered predator was handed over to the staff of the Capital Zoo and Botanical Garden, where it was cared for for about two months.
– The injured individual got his freedom back on December 5 of last year. Metal and colored leg rings applied before release allow the bird to be identified. The success of the rescue is clearly demonstrated by the fact that the bird was observed again a few kilometers from the place of release in mid-December - the Kiskunság National Park Administration reported on the successful bird rescue.
The steppe buzzard is a rare nester in Hungary, and most of its observation data comes primarily from the Great Plains. The species is highly protected in Hungary, with a conservation value of HUF 100,000.
