It seems that many people do not like the fact that Slovakian-Hungarian relations are getting better.
László Gubík, the president of the Hungarian Uplands party, reacted in a social media post to the fact that the Slovak "progressive" opposition calls Prime Minister Robert Fico a "Hungarian pig" in some expressions.
The participants of a demonstration made this claim on a poster.
"It is not good for a person's soul to pollute it with daily politics, but when the vocal but uninformed Hungarian opposition of a young democracy vilifies the Prime Minister, whose previous governments have already beaten up Hungarian fans and female students,
deprived people of their citizenship, then we can legitimately ask the question, is this still the New Year's Eve show or already the happy new year?"
László Gubík wrote on his Facebook page.
"It is not my place to decide from the head of a non-parliamentary Hungarian party whether the government or the opposition is in a better mental state for the year 2025, but I am ready to point out that we would not be happy if, after the events of last year, this year Hungarians from the highlands could be in his crosshairs," said the politician,
who last November, as the president of the Hungarian Association, negotiated with Fico about the planned amendment of the State Language Act.
Good news for Hungarians in the highlands: Fico won't allow it
Fico also assured the president and vice-president of the Hungarian Federation that his government would not allow the state language law to be amended in a way that would tighten the legal regulations affecting the language use rights of national communities.
"The issue of Slovak-Hungarian coexistence is no longer a political topic in Slovakia that would be part of a pre-election campaign," Fico stated after the meeting.
